The five Brothers designated by RELEM to attend the International Assembly of Young Brothers in Manila from July 19 to August 7 met at Saint-Denis (Paris) on December 22 and 23. This Assembly is being held as mandated by the 44th General Chapter and its objective is to provide some time for young Brothers to talk about their own situations and to formulate some common proposals for the 45thGeneral Chapter.

Forty-five Brothers, elected as representatives of their respective Regions, will participate in this Assembly. For RELEM’s part, the young Brothers elected its five delegates at their last meeting in Parmenie (August 2012). They are: Salvatore Santoro (Italy), Vicentiu Ghiurca (Central Europe), Jean-Claude Abou-Atme (Lebanon), Arsenio Turiégano (ARLEP) and Vincent de Léglise (France).

At the meeting held at Saint-Denis, Brother José Andrés Sánchez, a member of the Preparatory Commission for the Assembly, reported on the preparations for the Assembly, the topics to be dealt with, the methodology and what is being asked of the delegates. In addition to the fraternal component and the meeting itself, the Assembly will try to gather information on the current state of the young Brothers in the Institute and to draw up proposals that will be presented to the next General Chapter.

Our Region of RELEM already has a schedule of planned meetings and work for the young Brothers. The RELEM delegates in the coming months will gather the thinking of all the young Brothers in the Region that have to do with the Assembly’s topics: 1. Community Life; 2. Formation and Mentoring; 3. Association for the Educational Service of the Poor; 4. Consecrated and Spiritual Life; 5. Pastoral Ministry of Vocations. Young Brothers will be asked to state their joys, dreams, difficulties and proposals in terms of each topic.

Brothers Joël Palud and Jacques d’Huiteau will accompany the delegates in preparing for the Assembly. In addition to working at home we also enjoyed the hospitality of the new community – “Donrémy Community” – which is Brother Vincent Léglise’s community which invited us for supper and to spend some time with them.

The International Assembly of Young Brothers will be held at De La Salle University – Dasmariñas City (Cavite), a few kilometers from Manila and it will be an important event not only for young Brothers, but for the entire Institute.
