IYBA 2013 Day 10

It began how it ended, in prayer. Day 10, the last day of the International Young Brothers Assembly (IYBA) started with the Brothers’ morning praise and meditation, during which each Brother was called, one by one – asked to reply with, “Here I am, Lord.” – to receive their souvenir, a La Salle Brother doll. It foreshadowed the rest of the day.

The Brothers then had their pictures taken at the Shrine of the Risen Christ at the Retreat and Conference Center (RCC). The delegates also took this time to have photographs with each other. Several Young Brothers were also filmed for the Vocations Promotion video where they shared their stories on how they started their lives as Brothers.

I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.

The delegates later convened at the Assembly Hall for the first reading of the IYBA Documents, the synthesis of all their hard work for the past ten days. Together, as one community, the Brothers worked together to polish and sharpen the statements in all three languages – English, Spanish, and French. They also took a short break so that they can review the documents individually.

In the afternoon, after their lunch, the delegates formed groups based on their regions – RELAF, RELAL, RELAN, RELEM and PARC. The groups discussed their experiences and prepared for the arduous task of spreading the message of the IYBA 2013 to the different sectors they  represent once they returned.

A final message from the Superior General.

After their grouping, the Brothers, once again, returned to the Assembly hall for the final reading of the IYBA Documents, the work of many that speaks in one voice. The Superior General, Br. Alvaro Rodriguez Echeverria FSC, also gave his final message to the Brothers. He began humbly, saying, “Dear Brothers, this is not going to be a formal message, just a few words to conclude this encounter.” He thanked the Preparatory Commission for their service and dedication in organizing this momentous event. He continued by saying that this experience can serve as an Icon as they spread the message of the Young Brothers and invited them to “continue to be instruments of salvation for young people”. And, as a final inspiration to the delegates, he ends his message with, “Get up every time you fall, even if things don’t look so clear. Behind the clouds, the sky is always blue.”

Celebrating the Eucharist, a thanksgiving.

The Brothers were then given time to prepare for their Thanksgiving Mass, which was again held at The Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, here in De La Salle University-Dasmarinas. It was also during the mass where the delegates officially signed the IYBA documents. Each Brother was, again, called by their name and asked to sign the document by the altar. The commissioning rites were held at the end of the mass — each one of the delegates was given a cross, a symbol of their mission to bring back the message of the IYBA to their respective communities. The delegates also took this time to thank the Preparatory Commission, the Resource Speakers, the Translators and everyone responsible for making the IYBA a successful gathering.

A moment to stop and say thank you to the people who make a difference.

The Appreciation Dinner followed at the College of International Hospitality and Management, which was a short distance from the chapel. Most of the Brothers chose to walk, enjoying a nice Dasmarinas evening. At dinner, Br. Richie Yap FSC, a member of the Preparatory Commission expressed the gratitude of the Brothers by recognizing everyone who made the IYBA a success. DLSU-D then assembled a showcase of talents from food preparation, dance presentations and song numbers, ensuring that it was a memorable night for the delegates.

Thanksgiving and appreciation night.

In the end, the Brothers expressed their farewells with one another, as they took pictures and embraced. The pictures were not merely remembrances; they were reminders of a time when the Young Brothers gathered together as one community to find their own language in the mission. And each embrace did not mean goodbye, but a symbol of their unity as Young Brothers.
